Daniel Francis Sheets, age 85 of Warren, died Sunday, September 6, 2015 at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren. He was born March 12, 1930 in Detroit, son of the late Frank and the late Marie Sheets.By DAY, Dan was a guy who incurred a host of different emotions on the job. You see,… he was a postal carrier whose responsibility it was to deliver the mail,…both the warm & fuzzy kind, as well as those pesky bills. Yet no matter the haul, Dan created many wonderful friendships amidst his customers over the years and was quite dedicated to his work. His employment portfolio also included the 10 years that he faithfully gave of his time and talents at the Paslin Company in Warren where he worked in their custodial department.By NIGHTS & WEEKENDS, he enjoyed his coveted passion in life,…music! When asking his children to describe a notable trait of their Dad, the immediate response came back, "he was the 'Leader of the Band.'" Being quite proud of the small, but mighty sound he had put together with his fellow band mates, Dan was truly the leader of the band, known by the name, "The Holiday's." For over 40 years, invitations rolled in that kept the guys playing most every weekend throughout the year,…and a few gigs thrown in between, too. Dan was the groups accordion player,…an instrument he had not only mastered, but helped many learn to play as an accomplished teacher as well. On those occasions when he wasn't working or playing gigs, Dan could often be found enjoying a sit in front of the television watching some of his favorite TV fare, the old westerns,…the ones in black & white, of course. The television also offered Dan an avenue to another of his favorite pastimes, catching the games of his beloved Tigers and Lions. He was a Detroit sports fan through & through, and there was no greater banner-waver than Daniel. As for a little "shared fun" with family and friends, the name of the game was Poker,…and Dan was the master of that, too! He loved playing cards of any kind,…but Poker was his wheelhouse. Nothing says "fun" like a table full of poker players, a glass (or bottle) of liquid encouragement by your side, and some rousing table talk to round out the evening,…and Dan just couldn't get enough.Yet without question, Dan's prime pastime was enjoyed escaping the concrete jungle for a bit of Michigan's "Heaven Up North" at the family's cottage on Houghton Lake. It was there that he truly found the serenity and peacefulness that brought a welcomed balance to life. It was also where he enjoyed a plethora of wonderful family moments, memories created with those he cared for immensely. Dan leaves behind a legacy of love as unique as the man he was, and touched a multitude of lives along the way,…many whom are left to embrace the joy with each reflection shared. He will be missed beyond expression, and loved eternally.Daniel was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy. Dear father of Kenneth, Robert, Dan (Sarah), and Laura (Tom) Leslie. Loving grandfather of Nicole, Kristie, Tina, Nicholas, Aaron, Ashley, Rachel, Michael, Nathan, Isaac, Leah, Brittney, Christine, and great-grandfather of Ryan, Trevor, Tyler, Austin, Autumn, LaLeia, and Alyssa. Arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. Please share memories of Daniel at his memory book above.
