Edward Kwiotek, age 89 of Warren, died Monday, July 11, 2011 at St. John Macomb Oakland Hospital in Warren. He was born April 11, 1922 in Poland, the son of the late Augustyn and the late Marta (nee: Zimon) Kwiotek. On September 12, 1948, Edward's life took on a glorious change when he promised himself in marriage to the love of his life, Else. It was just the beginning of what would become over 62 years of growing in love together and sharing the wonderful journey as husband & wife. Two years after their marriage, Ed & Else's lives took on another monumental change when they decided to leave their motherland and emigrate to the Unites States. Seeking fresh and exciting opportunities, they set sail for America in 1950 and began a new life in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Being proud of their new home, both became naturalized citizens and eagerly strived at assimilating to their new surroundings. One day, Ed heard about the intriguing opportunities that were coming from the automotive industry up north, and once again the wheels were set in motion and change was beckoning anew. This time, his sights were set on Michigan, so north he headed to become a Michigander, choosing East Detroit as his new home. Trained as a Machine Tool Specialist, Edward's skills and expertise were highly sought after within the automotive industry and he was most proud of the working relationships he shared with both General Motors and the Chrysler Corporation. In 1961, the "relocation bandwagon" was calling his name again, this time for a special work assignment in Argentina, South America. For a year and a half, Ed was able to tout his wares in the warmth found south of the equator. Along with Argentina, some other work assignments found him jaunting off to places such as Brazil, Venezuela, South Africa, and France. Returning to the U.S., his distinguished career with the automotive giants continued forth until his well-deserved retirement. When he was able to pull away from work, one of his favorite pastimes was traveling and seeing the beauty of the world. Together with his Else, the two were globetrotters extraordinaire. From seeing parts of every state in the union, to taking in the wonders of scenery around the world, Ed's traveling portfolio was immense and memorable. In telling the story of Edward, mention definitely needs to be shared with regards to the "warrior spirit" he exuded in the many battles fought with his heart challenges and infirmities. For over 30 years, his incredible and unfathomable will power and stamina provided just the strength he needed to withstand the numerous surgeries he faced. Outliving two heart valve replacements and two pacemakers, he simply kept fighting and winning one battle at a time,...with a heart that remained strong & kicking inspite of the odds. It was truly a testament to the kind of man he was and his refusal to throw in the towel. He was an inspiration to all. For this devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, the character traits of hard worker and succesful provider only begin to extol the attributes of this special man. The legacy of love he leaves behind is strong and true. He will be missed immensely and remembered eternally. Edward is survived by his wife, Else (nee: Schmidt); sons, Henry (Janis) and Erwin (Carol Lynn); grandchildren, Yvonne (Kyle) Hanson, Lara, Callie, and Ian Kwiotek; great grandchildren, Chase and Kyler; and siblings, Yolanda (Rudi) Kowalski and Benedict Kwiotek. Memorial visitation for Mr. Kwiotek will be held Sunday 12:00 - 4:00 pm, with a Eulogy Service at 3:00 pm, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road).
