

Elizabeth Betty Anne Ervin Kelly passed away on June 30, 2008 in Grosse Pointe, MI at the age of 85. Betty is survived by her beloved husband, Lawrence J. Kelly, Sr. MD, to whom she was married at St. Pauls Catholic Church on August 16, 1947, and by whom she was cherished and respected for more than 60 years. She nurtured, loved, and is survived by her children, Lawrence (Linda Garner), Barbara, Brian, (Sheilah Carter), Sharon, John (Val Spooner), Marilyn (Martin Grummer), Susan (Chris) Bickley and Timothy (Liz Beam) and her 17 grandchildren, Megan Kelly, L. Jamie Kelly, James Kelly, Eric Kelly, Caitlin Kelly, Margaret Kelly, Paul Stanton, Rachel Stanton, J. Patrick Kelly, Eric Kelly, Aidan Grummer, Maxx Grummer, Daniel Bickley, Robert Bickley, Brian Bickley, Matthew Kelly and Lauren Kelly. She is survived by her sister, Helen Cassidy Stevens and her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Kelly Sullivan. Throughout her life, Betty maintained a passion for literature and history, athletics, the fine and performing arts and chocolate. She believed that it was Gods intent that we each leave this world a better place than we found it. She taught her children to believe that they could do anything they set their minds to do. She showed them unconditional love and was loved and honored in return. Betty was born in Detroit on October 27, 1922, the daughter of the late Herschel C. Ervin, originally of Hendricks Co., IN, and the late Mabel Guina Ervin of Detroit, MI. She was a graduate of St. Marys Academy in Monroe and the University of Michigan. A lifelong resident of Grosse Pointe, Betty also enjoyed wonderful years skiing in Gaylord, MI and golfing in Juno Beach, FL. Private services were held at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan on July 5, 2008.
