I have known “Mr. Gelindo”, as we always called him, for 55 years. My family rented a flat, upstairs from the Trevisan family, when we came to this country in 1966. That’s how I met his daughter, my best friend, Paula.

Mr. Gelindo was so helpful! Here we were, a family of five who didn’t speak a word of English, didn’t have a car or knew anything about this new life we were starting. Yes, we had relatives who helped but it was so much easier to “just go downstairs and ask Mr. Gelindo”.

He was incredibly resourceful, taking us grocery shopping, showing us “how to”grocery shop (we came from a small town, we had never seen a grocery store like we have here), banking, paying bills, Dr’s appointments, school and so much more. All the things we encounter in every day life,  that we take for granted people know how to do, but as immigrants, we had no idea what we were doing.

All this, he did with kindness and a smile, never once did he tell us he couldn’t help, and was always there for us.

These are the memories you never forget. This is how I will remember Mr. Gelindo, a kind, gentle, happy man who helped us establish our life in a new country. One last Thank You, Mr. Gelindo, for everything. May You Rest In Peace.

The memory I remember the most is him holding my grandson dominic at barbecues and talking to him and just smiling and laughing. Rest in peace.


Zio, as I called him since I was 15 years old will be greatly missed. I met the Trevisan family when I was 15 yrs old. Paula became my best friend. Paula and Johnny baptized my first born daughter. Zio, was a sweet and gentle man. He loved people but especially his family. When I was getting divorced, he was my mentor that I talked to. He always gave me good advice. When I needed to talk to someone, we would meet for coffee or breakfast. He always such a great listener. My oldest daughter called him Nonno. He would play with her on the floor. He had so much love and spirit. I admired his stamina for a man of his age. He dress sharp and was so handsome. He has been a big part of my life, like a second father.  I thank God for having the Trevisan family come into my life. We celebrated many holidays together and birthdays. He was the best barbacuer. Zio would always do the barbacue winter, spring Summer or fall. I will miss you Zio. I love you always!

It is very hard for me to put into words, what I am trying to say...........
Gelindo was a very strong person, he was very smart also, he could figure out how to do just about anything he set his mind to.  He would do anything for anyone.  His love for his family was immense.  I saw this first hand as I witnessed how he cared for his ill son Johnny, without so much as a whimper.  
When we would gather together for holidays, or just a simple dinner, he would tell stories of his childhood life in his native Italy, and laugh so hard at some of them that he had a hard time finishing his tale. 
He gave me the most precious gift in my life, his daughter.  And do not worry dad I will take good care of her. 
May you rest in peace,  we will all gather again one day for those stories.

I can remember growing up knowing how much he loved me and my brother. He was a wonderful father,  very supportive, in everything we did.  When my brother was diagnosed wth  M. S.  He and my mom spent a small fortune trying to find a cure.  He is the one who took Johnny to treatments in and out of the country.  He is the one who would leave work to attend to my brother's needs and then when he was finished, he went back to work.  This went on daily for years but he never complained.  He was there for us day and night.  We knew he was proud of us. We were proud of him as well.  Apparently when he first came over from Italy he took any job he could get. From Ice  cream  maker to pasta factory to construction,  to electrician (self-taught).  His first job in America,  he made one dollar an hour, being an immigrant without an education, but we always had what we needed. He was a hard working, caring, generous, honest, old fashion, unselfish man. He would do anything for anyone and give the shirt off his back too. He loved his family, he loved his friends,, loved to cook, loved fishing, deer hunting, dancing and watching wrestling on TV.  He had hardships, difficulties throughout his life but he told me recently that he wouldnt change anything.
Rest in peace Dad. I love you and miss you.
