Gerry was a devoted and longtime member of St. Malachy Catholic Church for over 40 years. His faith was central to his life, and he dedicated himself to supporting others through prayer. As a member of the Men of the Sacred Hearts, he helped spread their mission of bringing the grace and protection promised by Jesus to St. Margaret Mary into the homes of his community. Gerry was selfless in his prayers, always lifting up those he knew were in need. He enjoyed a long career as a tool process engineer for Chrysler Corporation before retiring in 1996.
In his younger years, Gerry was a standout football player at Salesian High School before joining the Pontiac Arrows semi-professional team. He stayed active throughout the years by playing on numerous softball teams and participating in many bowling leagues. He also enjoyed life’s simple pleasures - watching Lions and Tigers games, spending time with family and friends, and caring for his home and yard. Gerry was also quite the handyman, always the first to volunteer to help a relative or friend with a project. He and his beloved wife Angie enjoyed trying different restaurants, preferring to patronize small local places. They shared many happy memories during their long marriage, including a surprise 50th birthday trip to Las Vegas.
Gerry was truly a friend to all - a kind and generous man who was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had a special affinity for the poor, and was often seen handing out money to the homeless, especially during the Christmas season. He loved his family above all else. He cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren, and his home was a gathering place where everyone felt welcome.
Devoted husband to Angie for 65 years. Loving father, affectionately known as “Pops,” to Chris (Linda) Ulewicz, Gerry (Tracy) Ulewicz, and Kathy Ulewicz. Cherished grandfather, “Dziadzia,” to Zachary (Holly), Alexander, Benjamin (Gemma), Madeline, Giancarlo, Brandon, Ryan (Kalene), and Angela (Casey). Proud great-grandfather to Silas, Stella, Indigo, Liam, Connor, Kinsley, Delilah, and Brody. Dear brother to Pat, Judy, Diane, Karen, and the late Mike. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
