Halina M. Mackie, age 95 of Warren, died Friday, February 26, 2016 at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born January 10, 1921 in Poland, daughter of the late Konstanty and the late Kazmiera (nee: Kaszuba) Grudzinski.Halina,…a good Polish name for a little girl born in the motherland. Halina was quite proud of her Polish heritage and its traditions, many of which she held close as she ventured into adulthood. Having learned a great deal from her mother and other ancestors, Halina will forever be remembered by her loved ones as the consummate Homemaker. From taking care of their needs to making sure the homestead was running like a well-oiled machine, Halina made an impact that will never be forgotten.Part of her homemaker skills was found in her talents as a seamstress, a realm in which she was truly accomplished. Growing up in an era where things were tight, Halina knew the importance of making money stretch wherever possible,…so she did her best to save the expense of buying clothing and produced it herself. In the early years, most everything the family wore was stitched & sewn by Halina's loving hands. And those industrious hands were not reserved, merely, for sewing as she was also quite adept in the skills of knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. Over the years, Halina managed to spin her magic through the creation of many beautiful and unique pieces of art,…many of which became useful as well.Giving to her loved ones came in many different forms, but one of the most memorable will always be her talents in the kitchen. Halina was revered as being a Gourmet Cook & Baker, and the evidence could always be found in the smiles and happy bellies that left her table following a meal. And speaking of her meals, Halina had two criteria for each of them. First, there would always be a bowl of soup,…and second, there would always be dessert to cap off her culinary delights. There was nothing more magical than when she cooked a good, traditional Polish meal,…and her cookies, cakes and pies were DA BOMB!Halina held incredible love and affection for her dear husband, Edward. But she vowed that his passing would not keep her down, so she moved on to new and exciting opportunities in life,…like becoming a volunteer at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, a charitable outpouring she enjoyed for over 12 years. On those many days when somebody needed a hand and a smiling face, it was often Halina stepping up to the plate. She loved giving to others, and volunteering provided her the perfect venue for her caring spirit. But Halina's life wasn't all work as she managed to fit in a little time for some R&R and personal satisfaction, too. One of the most fun of these were the 10 years she spent kegling with her friends at the local bowling alley. Halina loved bowling and was part of many entertaining leagues throughout the years. There's just something special and memorable about the sport of bowling, and Halina enjoyed every moment she spent tossing the ball down the lanes and making some lasting friendships in the process. Some personal time for Halina also included the countless hours she spent in front of the canvass with palate and brush in hand. (There goes those wonderful hands again!) She loved to paint with oils, and was most proud of the works of art she produced throughout her lifetime. Her pieces were definitely an extension of her creative gifts, and a testament to God's touch in her life.A dear wife and daughter,…a cherished mother,…a beloved grandmother,…and a dear friend to many,…though there are a plethora of words that could be drawn from in describing this special lady, some of those shared include,…gentle soul, forgiving, and a woman of grace & beauty. Halina leaves a storehouse of wonderful memories made with family and friends over the years, and a legacy of love that is sure to permeate the hearts of all she touched in her journey through life. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Halina was the beloved wife of the late Edward. Dear mother of Shelley Mackie, Dena (Greg) Mackie-Sherburn, Mark Mackie, Christina (Ted) Jackson, and Curtis (Diane) Mackie. Loving grandmother of Adam, Jordan, Evan, Ami, Robyn, Megan, Eric, and great-grandmother of 2. Sister of Helen, Danny, and preceded in death by siblings Tadeusz, Marion, and Jean.
