Ilse Margaret Ortland

Ilse Margaret Ortland, age 88 of Warren, died Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy. Ilse was born October 15, 1930 in Detroit to German immigrants, the late Paul Rudolf and the late Katherine Martha (nee Klein) Ehmer. Ilse attended Denby High School in Detroit. Even as a young lady, Ilse found great comfort in her faith. It was this faith in her Lord Jesus Christ that would cross the paths of Ilse and a young & dapper Arthur Dietrich Ortland at church one Sunday. This meeting would blossom into a true romance that led Art to ask for Ilse's hand in marriage one day on Belle Isle in Detroit, and together the two would share 64 wonderful years of marriage.Ilse took great pride in being a wife and mother to her four biological children, but she and Art would not stop there. Together they served as foster parents to 31 newborns throughout their marriage. When she was not involved in being a mom, Ilse found great solace in knitting as well as being an acclaimed seamstress and cook.Ilse's and Arthur's marriage would find them spending a year halfway around the world in Germany. While in Germany they shared their religious devotion through singing at church and in choral groups performing all over Europe. Once stateside, both she and Art appeared in the Michigan Opera Theater as extras in several operas.Ilse was the loving wife of Arthur D. Beloved mother of David (Hilary), Randall, Ronald and Laurel (the late Mark) Pare. Dear grandmother of Kathryn (Justin) Speyer, Emily (Chad) Wolowiec, Alyson Ortland, Kristen (Jeff) Paruch, Elizabeth Ortland and Eleanor Ortland. Treasured great-grandmother of Coralin, Nathan, Nicholas and Claire. Preceded in death by brother Paul Ehmer and sister Esther McMain. A Memorial Visitation for Ilse will be held Wednesday, November 28th from 3–9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd.) in Warren. Her Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 29th at the funeral home.
