March 25, 1929 - March 10, 2025
With love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Jane (Hunny) Skurya (nee Figurski), a woman whose heart knew no bounds. To those who knew her, she was an angel on earth - always giving, always caring, always making sure no one left her home hungry. She was generous beyond measure and would give her last dime to help someone in need. Now, she takes her place as a guardian angel in heaven, reunited with her beloved husband, Andrew Skurya, who passed just five weeks before her. Their nearly 75 years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, and countless dances - especially the polka, their favorite.
Family was everything to Hunny. Though she never had much in material wealth, her home overflowed with warmth, love, and a table always full of food for anyone who walked through her door. Her greatest joy was in the love she shared with her family:
Daughters Deborah Szukala (Robert) and MaryAnn Cutlip (Edward). Grandchildren Robert Szukala, Amanda Szukala (Daryl Vizina), Nicole Callegari (Lee), Anthony Ruggeri (Jessica), Angela Pfeifer (Stephen), and Jared Cutlip. Great-grandchildren Lauralee, Eden, Liam, Evelyn and Shea Andrew.
We extend heartfelt thanks to everyone at Huron County Medical Care, who provided loving and wonderful care to both of our parents throughout their stay.
Jane's legacy is one of love, generosity, and family. As we say goodbye, we carry forward her spirit... gathering together, sharing meals, and of course, dancing when the music calls.
A celebration of her beautiful life will be held on April 3, 2025, at 9:30 AM at St. Blase Catholic Church located on 15 Mile Road in Sterling Heights, with a gathering for guests beginning at 9:00 AM. In her honor, please share a meal with a family member or a friend or make a contribution to St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church or the MIHumaneSociety.org.
