Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on May 9, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on March 20, 1940, in Detroit to William and Dorothy Griffin, Joan lived a life centered on faith and family.
Joan was the cherished wife of the late Ralph Nowak and a devoted mother to David Nowak, Diane (Michael) Olkowski, and John (the late Michelle) Nowak. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Joshua (Alyson) Nowak, Brian (Samantha) Nowak, Andrew (Marissa) Nowak, Katie (Deland) Davis, Mark (Elena) Olkowski, Eric Nowak, and Christopher Nowak. She was also deeply adored great-grandmother to Poppy, Boone, Tallulah, and Odis Nowak. She leaves behind many loving family members and dear friends. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Barbara Layman and Robert Griffin.
Joan found joy in life’s simple moments. She enjoyed attending Bible studies, working on puzzles, coloring, playing sudoku and dot-to-dots, and never hesitated to peek at the answer pages tucked in the back. More than anything, Joan treasured time spent with her family. Whether cheering from the sidelines at sporting events or gathering everyone together for special occasions, she made each person feel loved, supported, and important.
Her warmth, steady presence, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
