We mourn the loss of Laura Mae Clark-Waters, born April 24, 1960, and died March 23, 2026. She passed quickly of natural causes, in the home where she lived with her husband Thomas Waters, daughter, son-in-law and two beloved grandchildren. As precious “Memaw” to Ethyn Clark, Addylynn Clark, Isaiah Wallace, Jeremiah Wallace, Theodore Goodwin, Laelynn Porter (predeceased), Lilliana Porter and great-grandchild Noelle Clark, Laura’s love for her grandchildren began with her first grandchild, often exclaiming that she was “born to be a Memaw.” This sentiment was woven into everything that Laura did, from apple picking to riding rides at local festivals, from water slides to wading in the water in Caseville, Mackinac and in the ocean, and from making apple pie to rolling out the most delicate cookie. Laura loved each one of her grandchildren beyond measure.
Every person she touched in life was blessed, including her nieces, nephews and their children: niece Jessica Diem (Eric Diem) and their children Natalia Diem and Gage Diem; niece Shanna Brown (Mike Brown) and her son Little Eddy Marotz III; niece Amanda Russell (Glen Russell), nephew Nick Kyewski, nephew Walter Kyewski (Jessie Kyewski) and son Lucas Kyewski, and nephew Walker Latta. Among her dearest friends are Nancy, Danielle and Rhonda who were her rock and her family away from family.
Memaw is the beloved daughter of Elsa Jansen (Hovanec) and predeceased by her father Girard Jansen. Sister of Pamela Latta (Jeff), Donna Jansen, and Sandra Filer (Mike).
Married to Joseph Clark in 1981, Memaw and Joe raised six children Brian Clark (Breanne Page), Rachael Goodwin (Brian Goodwin); Monica Wallace (David Wallace); Kristen Clark; Bethany Violette (Nathan Violette); and Mariah Porter (Raymond Porter) in Sterling Heights, Richmond and Armada, Michigan; and cherished three infants predeceased at birth, Joshua Clark, David Clark, and Joseph Clark.
There was no question that during the time of her children’s upbringing that she never missed a church service, church or community volunteer shift, football game, track meet, art class, tennis match, or choir pickup – all while finding time to seamlessly host every holiday and gathering as a warm embrace to their family and friends. Memaw’s house was full, and we were all drawn to its warmth. Her legacy lives on as her many friends and family strive to pay that warmth forward.
In 2007, Laura and Thomas met, later married in 2014 at Armada Twp City Hall with a small bouquet of flowers and a promise to take care of each other. Residing in Armada and Allenton, Michigan, Laura tended to her beautiful garden, raising her chickens, making fresh jams, canning tomatoes and the best produce you could find.
We will never forget you, Laura Mae Clark-Waters “Memaw”, because you have made us who we are today. The memory of your generosity, charm, creativity, and endearment will forever be in our hearts.
