It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leonard Anthony Motyka, who peacefully left us on January 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 16, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, to Theodore John Motyka and Jean (nee Wojcik) Motyka, Leonard was a man who lived a full life—one rooted in family, faith, service, and dedication.
Leonard met the love of his life, Joan Marie Bara, and they were married on May 12, 1956. Together, they raised four wonderful children and created a home filled with love, support, and compassion. Leonard was the epitome of a devoted father and grandfather: always present, always giving, and always ready to support his family in every way. His devotion to his children and grandchildren knew no bounds, and as his grandchildren grew, he remained deeply involved in their lives, providing steady guidance and unwavering love.
Leonard’s service to his country began when he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a machinist for eight months before transferring to the United States Army Reserves, where he served for seven years. He was honorably discharged in March 1965, a testament to his commitment and dedication to service.
Professionally, Leonard worked for General Motors for forty-two years, building a distinguished career. He took great pride in his work, and upon retirement, he sought to stay active by combining his passion for golf with a post-retirement job at Cherry Creek Golf Course. Working there brought him immense joy, as he was able to share his love of the game with others.
Leonard’s pride in his Polish heritage was a cornerstone of his life. He was an active member of the American Polish Assistance Association for over a decade, serving in the administration. He was also a proud member of the American Polish Century Club, where he enjoyed participating in their festivals and events.
A man of strong Catholic faith, Leonard believed in the importance of community, service, and love. He and his wife Joan were active members of the Catholic faith. They attended St. Martin de Porres Catholic Parish Church, as devoted members for nearly sixty years.
Leonard’s unwavering commitment to his family, his faith, and his heritage will leave a lasting impact on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and all those who had the privilege of calling him a friend.
