Marvin Gilbert Lemanski, age 85, died Monday, March 7, 2016 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan. Marvin was born December 4, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Edward Lemanski and the late Helen (nee: Merchant) Lemanski.Marvin was raised as a young boy in Detroit and later moved to Warren, Michigan where he attended Lincoln High School. Following his schooling, Marvin was called to duty serving in the United States Air Force where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. Marvin was stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a Radar man.Following his four years of military service, Marvin returned home to Michigan and soon thereafter traveled west to Utah seeking fortune as a prospector of Uranium and other precious metals. Marvin owns mineral claims, to this day, in Utah. Once again, Marvin would return home to accept employment with the Carboloy Corporation,...however, he eventually landed a position at General Motors as a Model maker. Marvin worked for over 40 years at General Motors until accepting his well-deserved retirement.Throughout his life, Marvin held a passion for sports with special appreciation for baseball,...a sport he not only played as a young boy, but one in which he coached and taught later in life and mentored many youths in East Detroit. Marvin coached Little Leagues, and older boys as well, and later played senior softball all the way into his sixties. Additionally, Marvin bowled in many leagues and also enjoyed many rounds of golf.Marvin was a man that would give the shirt off his back for another person in need. It seemed, over the years, whenever anyone needed something fixed or a home improvement project completed, Marvin was there to recruit his brother's- in-law, Bill, Harvey, and Jim along with others to complete the job. It seemed Marvin could do just about anything from simple fix-it jobs to adding an addition to a home. Marvin also fixed cars and re-sold the vehicles, along with tearing down camper trailers and rebuilding them to sell as well. Marvin was very social and active...one of his favorite outlets being his membership with the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Eastpointe where he remained a member until his death. In his younger years, Marvin shared ownership of a racehorse at Hazel Park Raceway named, "Winter Wonderland."Marvin was the beloved husband of the late Gladys, and is the dear father of Deborah (Mark) Miller, Marvin Jr. (Patty), Cynthia Tanner, Mark, Carrie (John) Hart, and the late Michael.
