Mary Ellen Green

Mary Ellen Green, age 92, died Sunday, July 21, 2019 at her home in Warren surrounded by her loving family.  Mary Ellen was born January 26, 1927 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, daughter of the late Jeremiah Linihan and the late Ester (nee: Sullivan) Linihan.

Mary Ellen was raised in Kalamazoo where she graduated high school and also worked for her father at his printing shop.  Following high school, she attended and graduated with a teaching degree from Western Michigan University.  It was while in college that young Mary Ellen would meet a handsome football player by the name of James Green,...which was the beginning of a love affair that transcended the next 67 years.

Mary Ellen and James Green were married December 26, 1949.  The couple first lived in Flint, Michigan, and later Ithaca, Michigan, where both worked as educators.  Mary Ellen would continue her education, later receiving a Master's Degree in speech therapy.

Mary Ellen and James eventually both found employment as educators within the burgeoning community of Warren, Michigan,...James taught at Fitzgerald High School, and Mary Ellen within the Warren Consolidated District.

Mary Ellen's career spanned over 47 years in Warren, from 1960 until her retirement in 2007.  Over the years, Mary Ellen worked at Mound Elementary (Fitzgerald Schools), Siersma Elementary, and lastly working as the speech therapist for the entire Warren Consolidated District.  Mary Ellen worked professionally until the age of 80, exemplifying a work ethic that is hard to duplicate today.

Along with working everyday, Mary Ellen found time to raise six boys and attend every school and sporting event she was able.  She continued as the matriarch of the Green family, attending her grandchildren's many functions as well.

Quiet time for Mary Ellen was spent reading or relaxing at her summer getaway at Houghton Lake.  She was devout in her Catholic faith and cherished her family and many friends.  She and her husband were both very social in Warren and also within the Houghton Lake communities.  Later in life, Mary Ellen and her husband traveled extensively visiting Ireland, Hawaii, and Alaska, along with taking many shipboard cruises.  She will be forever remembered as a wonderful mother, teacher, and mentor to her family and countless others.

Mary Ellen was the beloved wife, for over 67 years, to the late James L. Green, and the dear mother of Kevin (Tina) Green, Jere (Judy) Green, Jon (Nancy) Green, Brian (Marie) Green, Patrick (Pilar) Green, and the late Kelly Green. She was the cherished grandmother of Jennifer (Danny) Stameski, James (Julie) Green, Jarrett (Lori) Green, Melissa (Gustavo) Nazario, Katie (Jason) Freeman, Jack Green, Clark (Heather) Green, Kelly (Amanda) Green, Megan Green, Patrick Green, Bailey Green, Emily Green, Miguel Ferry, Nathalie Ferry, Rebecca Ferry, and great-grandmother of Dimitrije, Rosie, Zachary, and Kennedy.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her dear sister, Virginia Wheeler.

Visitation for Mrs. Green will be held Wednesday, July 24th from 2:30-9:00 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, 10:30 am at the Funeral Home.
