Growing up on Detroit’s east side, Nancy’s education path began with attending Lingemann Elementary School, and progessed in her graduation from Southeastern High School, both in Detroit. When it came time to enter the work world, Nancy managed to secure a position as a cashier, which eventually led to the position of Payroll Clerk. With a head for numbers, Nancy was quite an asset for her employer at the Social Services department.
Of all the favorite things in Nancy’s life, the greatest was the immense joy she garnered from simply spending time with family,…especially her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved all the family gatherings, like Thanksgiving, Christmas & Easter, and any occasion that would offer the opportunity for her to love and hug on each other. All of her grandchildren were precious, but the babies were her favoite. Their innocence, youthfulness and pure sweetness enveloped her heart like a warm blanket, soothed her soul, and brought a smile to her face that spanned ear-to-ear. If that wasn’t enough “baby joy” to be had, Nancy managed to find a ring tone of a baby laughing,…so each time her phone rang, Nancy’s soul was invigorated anew. And if THAT wasn’t enough, there were times that her phone would ring and she wouldn’t answer it,…just so she could allow the laughter to warm her heart and funny bone that much more. Yet Nancy was not that much different than most Grandma’s out there, most of whom live for the joy and elation that accompany the sounds of God’s smallest blessings.
In her earlier years, Nancy found great pleasure in the joys of dancing, the outdoorsy delights of camping. As the years marched on and her daughters reached adulthood, it was time to hit the shopping circuit. Nancy loved to shop, but it was always made so much more special when shared with her daughters. Yet not just in the shopping fun they shared, Nancy was blessed simply to enjoy the Saturday’s they spent together enjoying any number of pastimes and creating memories that her girls will now embrace with each reflection shared. Another of Nancy’s fondest memories were those spent in the car as they took a ride by the water. There was a peacefulness and serenity that seemed to abide with Nancy in the simple joy of a car ride by the lake, and she could never get enough. Plus, it meant she was afforded another chance of being with her family again.
Known to all as a kind and gentle lady, Nancy was also graced with a wonderful sense of humor and could be quite funny at times. Possessing a sweet and generous spirit, she could also be straight-forward and forthright in nature as well. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, but she never surrendered the selfless and beautiful soul that was her benchmark.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Nancy leaves behind a legacy of love that will be treasured and coveted by those who knew her most and loved her best. Her path in life was shared with many who sought her wisdom and yearned for her love, gifts of which she extended with each visit enjoyed. She leaves to take her place in Heaven, but will forever be here through the remembrances that keep her close.
