Norman S. Williams, age 89, died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Father Murray Nursing Center in Center Line, Michigan. He was born on April 30, 1922 in Malden, Missouri, son of the late Thomas Jefferson and the late Fannie (nee: Parker) Williams. With immeasurable thanks and sincere reflection, we pay special homage to Norman for the many years he served as a firefighter. Taking much pride in his work, we acknowledge Norman's bravery and his daily decision to step into harm's way for the safety of others. Norman was ultimately promoted to the position of Fire Chief, a status he maintained until his retirement. When it was time to get away from work and the concrete jungle, one of Norm's favorite escapes meant heading up to West Branch and enjoying the peacefulness & serenity of the family cottage on Elk Lake. It was the perfect spot for a little R&R, and just getting back to nature. But not every up north moment entailed relaxin' on the porch. Possessing an outdoorsman's spirit, Norm also enjoyed throwing a little hunting and fishing in the mix as well. He was also an avid snowmobile enthusiast and experienced countless hours of fun and excitement on his "big boy's sled" during the many trips he made to Munising in the Upper Peninsula. Norm was also a boating enthusiast and enjoyed the pleasures of the lakes, especially Lake St. Clair where he liked to take the boat for a whirl. He moored his boat at the North River Road Marina in Harrison Township where he revelled in the comaraderie of his fellow nautical mates and the ambiance of the baoting society. Norm's life was one who touched many, and left a loving impact in its wake. He will be missed immensely, and loved & remembered eternally. Beloved husband of Mary. Dear father of Richard, Karl (Lauredes), and the late Michael. Loving grandfather of Adam, Heather; and great-grandfather of four. Arrangements were entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. Please share memories of Norman at his guest book.
