Patrick A. Orchard. Age 64 of Warren, died Monday, August 24, 2015 at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren. He was born on March 5, 1951 in Detroit, son of the late Chester and the late Dolores (nee: Potrikus) Orchard.Born and raised in Detroit, Patrick's path in education began at the city's Patronage of St. Joseph Elementary, then culminated with his graduation from Nativity High School on the city's eastside. While in high school, Patrick's sporting appetite at that time was satisfied through his involvement with both the basketball and softball teams. On May 19, 1973, Patrick's life became wonderfully changed when he watched his bride take her walk down the aisle at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Detroit where the two were joined in marriage. Those "I Do's" led to over 42 years spent together raising and nurturing a home and family, and growing deeper in love with each passing day.Patrick was a hard worker with devout work ethics, and worked a myriad of different jobs throughout his employment years. Not because he was unable to hold a job, but rather due to a number of his employers going out of business. When he wasn't working, he thoroughly enjoyed the times spent at the family's cottage,…or participating in his favorite sport of bowling. For many years, from early childhood until health issues dictated otherwise, Patrick took great pleasure in feeding his bowling appetite and engaging with his various teammates & friends in fulfilling competition and conversation. If not for bowling, there always seemed to be something that he did to stay active.Patrick possessed an eclectic personality with facets of himself that spanned a host of character traits. From the man who could not keep a secret,…to the guy that everyone liked. From the son who spent Thursday evenings mowing his parent's lawn,…to the brother who abided with his older sister in the years she battled diabetes. From the practical joker with a sense of humor that loved picking on people and rarely showed a serious side,…to the man who held his family in the highest regard and was always there to help. In the yin & yang of life, Patrick loved his mother-in-law,…but had a pretty tough time warming up to technology. He loved Christmas, the time of year that he was perpetually that little boy looking for Santa,…but was often challenged by needing to make a decision. A restaurant with an extensive menu was torture to Patrick. Yet in his own unique and genuine way, he drew out the best of you from deep within,…from where it counted the most. When work no longer bore its demands on Patrick, he decided to rededicate himself to his children, allowing their relationships to blossom and be enjoyed anew. And he was just getting started in his role as "Grandpa,"…and adored his two cherubs, James and Alexis immeasurably. As for grandson James, that child could do no wrong! As physical challenges took their toll upon Patrick, he was compelled to seek further care and assistance which was ultimately found at Father Murray's Nursing Center in Warren. A resident there since September of 2014, Patrick managed to create quite a cadre of friends and fellow resident's during his almost year-long stay. Between the Bingo sessions and the various trips he enjoyed in their company, Patrick always made the best of every situation.A loving husband, father and grandfather, Patrick leaves us far too soon,…but not without a host of treasured memories to embrace with each reflection shared. He was a good provider, a devout family man and friend, and always sought the "gusto" that made it all worthwhile. He touched a multitude of hearts and lives along the way, and he will be remembered with affection always. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Patrick was the beloved husband of Barbara. Dearest father of Michael (Darlene) Orchard, Michelle Ozga, and Mark Orchard. Loving grandfather of James and Alexis. Cherished brother of Sharon (Walter) Drobek and Elaine Orchard. Brother in law of Susan Orchard. He was preceded in death by sister, Judith Bourbeau and brother Gary Orchard..Visitation for Patrick will be held Wednesday 3-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. Funeral Service Thursday 11:30 am at the funeral home. Please share memories of Patrick at his memory book above.
