Ray C. Hunter, age 86 of Sterling Heights, died Monday, June 29, 2009 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan. The loving son of Gordon & Mildred Hunter, he was born on March 7, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan. We pay homage to Ray for his service to our country during World War II. He served, honorably, as a sailor in the United States Navy. On May 7, 1955, Ray took his beloved Wanda's hand in marriage, whom he leaves to cherish his memory. The two went on to share 54 wonderful years together. Ray was employed for 28 years with General Motors where he worked as a Specifications Writer for the Engineering Department. When he wasn't working, Ray would often find solice by spending time fishing. Another of his favorite pasttimes was bowling. Together with his wife, they enjoyed participating in bowling leagues with both the Seniors and his friends from General Motors. The family reflects on some of the special memories that were made in the travels they enjoyed together. Whether it was exploring the country in the family car, or hauling the camper behind for a venture to one of the many campgrounds throughout the state of Michigan, Ray enjoyed spending time with his family and soaking up the wonders of this great land. But as all who knew him knows, one of his great passions was exemplified through his woodcarving skills. Together, he and his wife constructed a "woodcarvers heaven" in the basement of their home where Ray spent countless hours creating his wooden masterpieces that he shared with all. Beloved husband of Wanda. Dear father of Kerry (Sheryl) Hunter and Brad Hunter. Loving grandfather of Kimberly, Andrew and Brendan. Brother of Earl (Helen) Hunter and Charlotte Chase. Visitation for Ray will be on Wednesday, July 1 from 2-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd.) in Warren. He will lie in state on Thursday from 10am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00am at Redemption Lutheran Church in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Interment will follow at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan. Please share memories of Ray at his guest book.
