

Raymond Joseph Lubien, Deacon Ray age 66 of Warren, died Monday, October 13, 2008 at St. John Macomb Hospital Center in Warren. Raymond was born January 08, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Joseph Lubien and the late Dorothy (nee: Prisby) Lubien. Raymond was raised in Detroit and attended grade school at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Parish in Detroit, and was a proud Altar Server. He was an active Boy Scout, achieving the level of Eagle Scout Order of the Arrow. Ray continued his devotion to the Boy Scouts and in the mid 1960s worked with Boy Scout Council, and later during the 1980s was an Assistant Troop Leader at Queen of Heaven Parish Troop #9 with his son. After grade school he attended Salesian High School and graduated in 1960. Following high school Ray joined the United States Air Force and served for 5 years as a B-47 crew chief with the Strategic Air Command. Ray met his wife Kathleen in Lincoln, Nebraska while serving at the Lincoln Air Base. They married on September 7, 1963 and just celebrated 45 years of marriage. Following his military service Ray and his wife, and his new baby girl moved back to Detroit in November of 1965. During his employment career Ray worked at G.E., S.O.S Consolidated, and as a Computer Analyst for Ford Motor Company. Ray retired from Ford in 2002. Raymond always felt a vocation to the Lord which called him to become an Ordained Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of Detroit. He entered his devotion to the Lord June of 1979, and served as a Deacon at Holy Name of Jesus, St. Ignatius, and finally has been the Deacon at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church for the last 17 years. Rays many proud achievements are being a 30 year anniversary retreatant at St. Paul of the Cross, he served as a Civil War Chaplain of the reenactment group, was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member of Cardinal Mercier Council #2723. However his greatest achievement was his beloved family. He was the proud Papa to eight grandchildren ranging in ages from 17 to 5 months old. Ray would always put his family first, dropping everything to help. He never went anywhere with out his toolshe enjoyed fixing things for his family, and was an avid collector of various treasures. Ray loved planes and flying as a proud member of AOPA, and he loved to fish with his son and grandsons. He enjoyed the outdoors, was a huge Sci-Fi fan, and enjoyed playing computer games and Sudoku. Finally Ray enjoyed helping family and friends with any type of computer problem, personal issue or just making people happy playing the accordion, and entertaining everyone around himself. He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen Kathy. Dearest father of Diane (Steve) Lown, Annette (Jim) Lown, and David (Nancy) Lubien. Loving Papa of Marissa, Emily, Samantha, Matthew, Ben, Sarah, Timothy, and Mary. Dear brother of Michael (Alice) Lubien, and Joanne (Steve) Celestini. Visitation for Deacon Ray will be Sunday from 3-9 pm with an evening Vigil Service 7:00 pm, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 Mile). Deacon Lubien will lie in state Monday 10 am, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, until the time of the Funeral Mass 11:00 am.
