Smilja “Smiley” Solunac (nee Vuckovic), a resident of Warren, Michigan, passed away April 28, 2021. Smilja was a long time board member and founding member of the St. Stevan Decanski Serbian Orthodox Church in Warren Michigan. She was a member of the St. Stevan Decanski Circle of Serbian Sisters. Smilja was born in 1932 in Srpske Moravice. Yugoslavia. She came to America in 1964. Once in America she noticed people had difficulty pronouncing her name. It was for this reason she unofficially changed her name to “Smiley” which certainly suited her personality and disposition. She was a beautician and owned her own beauty shop called Smiley’s Hair Care. She was a friend to everyone she met and always tried to brighten their day. She was devoted to her family. Ever faithful, devout, and a strong presence in her church community.
Preceded in death by her parents Durad and Zorka (Petrovich), beloved husband Vladimir Solunac, and brother Simeon (Milka) Vuckovic. Smilja is survived by her loving nephews, Dr. Stevan (Norma) Vuckovic of St. John, Indiana and George Vuckovic of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held Monday May 3, 2021 directly at 2pm at St. Stevan Decanski Serbian Orthodox Church 14235 E. 11 Mile Road, Warren, Michigan with Father Zvonko Kostic officiating. Visitation will be held prior to funeral from 12pm to 2pm. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, 19975 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Stevan Decanski Serbian Orthodox Church.
