Steven Phillip De Kane

Steven Phillip De Kane, age 54 of Clinton Township, died Saturday, December 16, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones at home. He was born October 27, 1963 in Detroit, son of Robert and Phyllis (nee: Gutowski) De Kane.Steven's path through the work world took him down the road of manufacturing where his skills and talents would eventually clear his path into the realm of management. Ultimately attaining the role of Supervisor, he exuded a great deal of leadership mixed with the perfect blend of humor as well. And that pretty much defines the man in Steven that everyone came to know and love,…the "Jokester" who found immense joy in making others laugh, and helping to bring a smile to all with whom he came into contact. In his wake you could be assured that your day was going to be a whole lot brighter.Steven was a good man and a great father,…but a "Bad Boy," for sure. Not in a negative way, but almost always in a rebellious and mischievous manner. He was like a little kid sometimes, looking for ways to pull one over on his prey,…yet the greatest outcome was always the laughter that ensued and filled the soul. And speaking of filling something, Steven's belly comes to mind when recalling how enthralled he was with one of his favorite eateries, Loui's Pizza in Hazel Park. With a name like that, you'd think a favorite on the menu would be one of their iconic pizza's, right? However it was actually the "Loui's Special,"…a sandwich fit for a King, and equipped to feed an army. It was a massive handful of dietary delight, and certainly "filled a hole." Like many Michiganian men out there, a good portion of Steven's machismo was poured into his love of guns, an avid supporter of our glorious 2nd Amendment. Not only did he appreciate their worth, he also gave them a good workout each year as he joined the throngs of hunters heading into the woods in search of that prize buck. Steven loved deer hunting and the macho camaraderie that always seemed to follow a bunch of buddies gathered in the woods for a bit of tradition and bragging rights. And while on the subject of bragging, Steven's sporting prowess was also evidenced in another favorite pastime of his,…fishing. Always seeking to snag the "Big One," he garnered great enjoyment from this sport which offered the perfect blend of competition and relaxation. And where better to cast his fishing line than into the waters of Michigan's Great Lakes. (It's rivers and streams aren't too shabby either for an avid fisherman like Steven.)Another of his favorite pastimes was enjoyed each time he immersed himself in the pleasures of music. For anyone who truly knew Steven, they'll easily attest to how he would often get lost in its sounds. Music filled his soul and was just one of the driving forces that brought balance to his being. Each time he whipped out his guitar, you just knew that something magical was about to envelope the room. And not merely an appreciator of music, Steven possessed the unique and incredible skills of furthering its gifts through the crafting of guitars as well. With a keen eye and ear for the universal instrument, Steven coveted each and every moment he poured into designing and building his musical treasures. And there are a few out there who have been regaled by the stories from his earlier years when Steven had the unique opportunity of touring with the major rock band, Journey. A 70's and 80's staple in music of that day, Steven not only traveled with the group helping them sell their merchandise to adoring fans,…he WAS one of those adoring fans who freaked out the first time they invited him along to party with the band. Obviously, there were many more nights like that to savor,…and savor he did. Steven enjoyed a huge passion for motorcycles,…loved watching martial arts movies (especially those infamous Bruce Lee flicks),…but Steven's penultimate joy was found in his Canine Companion, "Blu." Bred of Pit Bull lineage and nurtured by the love of her master, she and Steven were a pair to behold, and he worshipped the ground she pranced around on. Like the Disney movie states; "All dogs go to Heaven,"…so there's a slobbery wet reunion awaiting Steven when Blu transcends that Wild Blue Yonder.Steven was truly a "friendly" sort of guy. He never met a stranger,…for the minute he shared your presence, you were drawn in as if you were mesmerized by his calm, accepting personality. He was also "kind-hearted" in so many ways. He would have given you the shirt off his back if he saw you were in need. Never any judging or second-guessing, just sharing the wealth of love and friendship like the Golden Rule says; "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." His generosity expressed an unselfish man simply reaching out with others in mind. Steven was also known for being soft-spoken and caring, never looking to be the center of attention,…rather, the one putting others on the pedestal. As we all look back on the many wonderful traits that speak to the heart of this man, it's certainly not hard to imagine,…if you didn't like or care for Steven, it was YOUR problem, not his! A loving husband, father, brother and son, Steven leaves behind many examples of how he cared for each special life that impacted his own, and evidence of just how powerful that touch was in its uniqueness. Steven's love will forever be a beacon leading us toward the truth that God cares, He's in control, and He's going to use Steven's life to further speak to us,…now as our Guardian Angel. Though he leaves us far too soon, it is certainly not without having infused us with a love that will be cherished with each reflection shared. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Go Rest High, Dear Brother! Steven was the beloved husband of Robin. Dearest son of Robert and Phyllis De Kane. Loving father of Raquel and Stephanie De Kane. Treasured brother of Vanessa (Richard) Grucz, Lorraine (the late James) Dembowski, and Robert De Kane Jr. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. Visitation for Steven will be held Tuesday, December 19th from 3-9 pm, with a 6:30 pm Scripture Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. His Funeral Services will take place at 10:30 am on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. Memorial donations are welcomed to the family. Please share memories of Steven at his memory book above.
