Walter Toporowski, 84, of Warren died Thursday, June 12, 2008 at St. John Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center. Walter was born and raised in Hamtramck by his parents, Francis and Angeline. During WWII, Walter proudly served his country in the Army as a medic, often working on the frontlines. In 1985 he retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he worked as a letter carrier in Detroit. Walter enjoyed crossword puzzles, bowling, attending his retiree meeting, playing the lottery, and going to the pickerel festival in Algonac. Mr. Toporowski is survived by his loving wife, Eleanore; daughters, Christine and Mary; granddog, Cherokee; siblings, Helen Mocny, Henry and Lottie Labedz. He is predeceased by his parents, Francis and Angeline; and siblings Edward, Irene Filipiak and Adele Nokielski. Visitation for Mr. Toporowski will be Saturday from 5-9 pm and Sunday from 2-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover at Common (12 Mile). There will be a rosary Sunday at 6:00 pm. He will be in state 10:00 am until the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at St. Sylvester Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be officiated by Fr. Gary Schulte.
