Wanda Lewandowski, age 95 of Warren, died Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Autumn Woods Health Care Facility in Warren. She was born on June 11, 1915 in Detroit, the daughter of the late Gustave and the late Rosie (nee: Klawinski) Malczewski. In 1936, at the age of 21, Wanda's life was gloriously changed when she took that fateful walk down the aisle, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Detroit, and promised herself in marriage to the love of her life, Walter. Together, the two would go on to share a long & loving relationship which was wonderfully enhanced by the four beautiful children they welcomed into the world. Along with being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Wanda was also the consummate homemaker as well. Whether through the everyday housekeeping chores, or her flair for decorating, she worked hard and diligently towards maintaining an environment that defined the "comforts of home" and an ambiance that was pleasing for all to enjoy. Home & family were the two things which brought her the most joy, especially when it came to her adoring grandchildren. And not only was her home a delight to the eye, but it was also the place to be come mealtime, too. Wanda was known for the magic she performed in the kitchen as she loved to cook. The polish fare she could whip up was a feast beyond compare, and she made sure that it was healthy eating as well. The meals she prepared were always special, yet not so much as the joy and importance she placed on sharing them together around the table. Those family dinners were ever-so-precious to Wanda, and the cornerstone of what kept them close. When she was caught up on all of her inside chores, Wanda found great delight and enjoyment in gardening. She poured a lot of tender-loving-care into the myriad of flowers and landscaping that surrounded her home, and the fruits of her labors was evident for all to see. Her yard was simply an extension of the beautiful lady that resided within her heart, and the hands of love that tilled the soil. After attending to her home, both inside and out, Wanda's idea of fun and entertainment was easily met through her trips to the MGM Casino in Detroit. There, she had the time of her life challenging the ever-popular "one-armed bandits" in search of the ever-hopeful pot of gold. But mostly, it was merely the fun and excitement of it all that she thrived on in her visits of pleasure. Another passion of Wanda's was found in her love of baseball,...namely, her favorite boys of summer, the Detroit Tigers. She had an exuberance for the sport that was unmatched by any other, and the Tigers never had a more devoted & loyal fan. But without question, her greatest pleasures and passion in life were wrapped around "family" and the precious loved ones who enveloped her life. A devout woman of faith, Wanda's devotion was centered in the love of her Lord, to whom she prayed fervently. And many of those prayers, undoubtedly, were lifted with her loved ones in mind. The times they shared together were priceless, and the memories they created were immeasurable. The legacy of love she leaves behind is strong and true, and she will be missed immensely. Wanda was the beloved wife of the late Walter. Dear mother of Beverley (Leonard) Lukomski, Robert (Charlene), Darlene Grillo, and Janice (Nicholas) Hrisopoulos. Loving grandmother of Lynette, Robert, Robin, Matthew, Frank, Kimberly, Nicole, Gina; and great-grandmother of Lauren, Hailey, Isabella, Austin, Aiden, and Connor. Predeceased by siblings; Marian, August, Walter, and Mary. Visitation for Wanda will be held on Monday, April 25th from 3-9pm, with a 7:30pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. She will lie in state from 10:00am until the time of Mass at 10:30am at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, 11200 Twelve Mile Road in Warren. Please share memories of Wanda at her guest book.
