Anson Brooks Smith, 59, an accountant, business entrepreneur, and musician died April 28, 2016 at his home in Bethesda. Anson is survived by his loving wife, Tracy; his stepchildren, Ryan and Sophie; his mother, Peggy Brooks Smith; his sister, Tina West (Ed) and their children, Amanda, Jake and Ashley; his brother, Carter Smith (Nicole) and their daughter, Tallula; and his cousins, Brad Chesivoir (Carole Klein), Sheryl Chesivoir (Sid Shapira), Robert Peskin (Ellen) and Nancy Moskowitz (Jay).
Born in Washington, DC, he was graduated from Walt Whitman in 1974 and was graduated from American University in 1979. After earning his CPA license, he started his own accounting practice in Bethesda which he managed until his passing. At that same time, he first started investing in, and then developing, multi-family and retail projects in Frederick, Maryland; among other properties, he eventually owned three of the four corner buildings at Frederick''s primary business intersection. He was also an extremely talented musician in his own right as the founder and lead guitarist of the local band Ether (as well as its primary composer) and as a producer of other musicians'' music. For 29 years, he also enjoyed being the business manager for one of Bruce Springsteen''s guitarists and occasionally accompanied the E Street Band on tour. Despite the extensive demands of his various businesses on his time, he stayed in close touch with his family and extensive circle of life-long friends. While he loved traveling with his beloved wife Tracy on vacation to places such as Spain and Italy, he was equally content to just be at home beside her.
His entrepreneurial skills and success allowed him to fulfill his creative passions for architecture, song writing, and playing music. He was a lover of life and an artist at heart.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 1 at Joseph Gawler''s Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC. There will be no graveside ceremony. The family will welcome guests for shiva services from 6 until 9 p.m. on Sunday May 1 at the home of Brad Chesivoir and Carole Klein.
