Aziza Buentello, known by all as Ruby, passed peacefully into rest on May 11, 2019, after a brief illness. Born in Fayoum, Egypt, on May 9, 1937, Ruby emigrated to the United States in 1967 with a group of girlhood friends, who all settled in the Washington, DC area. Here, Ruby met and married Frank Buentello, an Army Ranger newly back from duty in Vietnam, who was beginning his long and decorated career as a DC police officer. In the five decades since, Ruby served as an expert and loving childcare provider and loyal friend to many local families, for whom her care, capability, and good company were indispensable. Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank, and her dear friends Rosie Tadros and Bella Barsch. She is survived by her devoted sister, Julia Gouda, of Washington and nieces and nephews in Egypt and Canada.
Ruby was a devout member of the Wisconsin Avenue Baptist Church and will be missed by her church family.
Ruby leaves behind many close friends and an extended family of now-grown children she helped to raise, whose sorrow at her loss is matched only by their gratitude for her love. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday May 18, 2019 at the Wisconsin Avenue Baptist Church, 3920 Alton Pl, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a service to follow. Interment will take place at Rock Creek Cemetery.
