Forgot to mention that I dedicated my baseball book (see Torii Cantu is The DH at Amazon) to Bill, my brothers and Eddie Yost. The cover photo shows Bill Harrison crossing home plate after his home run at Griffith Stadium.

Cousin Billy introduced me to the Washington Senators and my childhood baseball hero, Eddie Yost. He played a baseball card game at home that he invented even before his teen years. He took lessons & played the piano when I visited him about 70 years ago. The melody I remember most was his version of "Misirlou". But Bill was mostly about sports and especially baseball. I asked him what he thought of the "designated hitter" rule which I despised. He loved it because it made the games "longer". His greatest regret, I am reasonably certain, was that he never played major league baseball. He had the talent; just not the breaks. His home-run at Griffith Stadium as a high schooler had to be one of the highlights of his career. Gonna miss Bill a lot.

My deepest sympathy to all. As a boyhood friend of Billy's, I can tell you he was a great guy and liked by all. I was at the game at Griffith Stadium when he hit a homer over the right field wall-the only and last time a high school player had knocked it out of the park. Lost touch over the years but often thought him.

Herbert and I are sad.  We pray that you Sophia and your family will find the strength in good memories of a wonderful, gentle and always smiling Bill.

Mr. Harrison was a great Coach and Teacher!  What an unforgettable opportunity to be inducted into Sherwood High Athletic Hall of Fame with him last year!  He managed our 1972 undefeated baseball team and that is a memory that will last a lifetime!  He was a man of tremendous class and accomplishment and touched the lives of countless students and athletes!  Never to be forgotten!
