Catherine Abby Harkins

Catherine “Katie” Harkins passed away on Sunday, February 12th 2023, surrounded by her family. Katie was the beloved wife of 49 years to Brian Harkins, devoted mother to Carly Harkins (fiancé, Josh Saunders) and Matthew Harkins (wife, Shannon Harkins), and adoring grandmother to Connor and Sean Harkins. She is also survived by her loving sisters Lillian O’Connell Samolis (husband, Frank Samolis) and Amy O’Connell.

Katie was born in Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Trinity College in Washington, DC. She was a long-standing active member of her community while raising a tightly knit family. Over the years she was an avid reader and enthusiastic member of her book club of close friends. She loved hosting family get togethers, cooking, traveling, and admiring flowers.

Katie will be dearly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service in celebration of her life, will be held at Joseph Gawler’s and Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, NW (corner of Harrison Street) Washington, DC 20016 on Saturday, February 18th at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are invited for visitation hours on Friday, February 17th from 6pm-8pm. Memorial donations may be made to Sibley Memorial Hospital Foundation in her name.
