Ingrid Klingelhofer Davis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026. Born on August 17, 1946, in Montgomery County, Maryland to Herbert and Kathryn Klingelhofer, Ingrid lived a life beautifully defined by a love of family, friendship, flying, and basking in the sun.
Ingrid grew up in the Washington, DC area, where she attended Beauvoir School and National Cathedral School before graduating from Maret School. She went on to earn her degree from Wesleyan College in 1968. Later that year, she embarked on a 37-year career as a Flight Attendant with United Airlines—a profession that spanned from the Golden Era of air travel in the 1960s to the new reality of post-September 11 security. Despite the long days and being often away from home, she loved her profession and colleagues; and her career allowed her family to explore the country coast-to-coast and fly to Hawaii every year.
On June 19, 1971, Ingrid married Robert Elwood Davis. Together they built a home where everyone felt welcomed. The bedrooms of their house on Klingle St. were continually occupied by friends and family, and it was a hive of entertaining, great meals, and a chorus of laughter.
Ingrid is survived by her husband Robert; her children Christopher and Katy—and her partner Alastair; and her grandchildren Inez and Fletcher. She is also survived by her siblings whom she adored—Stephan, Andrea, Eric, Victor, Philip, and Martin—and by the countless friends whose lives were made richer for knowing her.
While she suffered from progressive dementia over the past decade, Ingrid never lost hold of her generosity and happy disposition. She passed from this world as she lived in it—on her own terms and with minimal drama. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
