Isaiah Guyman Martin Jr.

Born January 22, 1911 died May 8, 2014, age 103. He was born in Los Angeles, CA to Isaiah G. Martin and Mary Pearl Howe. He received a BA from Occidental College in 1931 where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He then received a BA and a MA from Oxford University in England where he was at Lincoln College. He achieved an LL.B. at Yale University Law School and entered private practice at Donovan, Leisure, Newton & Lumbard in New York City. During the second World War he served in the United States Navy and then in the O.S.S., achieving the rank of Lt. Commander and receiving the Legion of Merit. After the war he settled in Washington, DC where he practiced law. From 1981 to 1986 he served as president of International Bank Corporation and then returned to the practice of law.

He was a member of the Metropolitan Club of Washington, and the Knickerbocker, Brook and Yale Clubs in New York City. He remained an active and enthusiastic member of the Chevaliers de Tastevin until his death.

His wife Edith Gould Martin died in 2004. He is survived by his daughter, Theodosia Burr Martin; three sons, Isaiah Guyman Martin III, Jason Gould Martin and Christopher Kingdon Martin and five grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at Christ Church Georgetown, 3116 O St., NW, Washington, DC on Friday, May 16 at 11 a.m. Burial private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Reverend I.G. Martin scholarship fund at St. Alban's School.
