Brilliant, yes, but also such fun to work with!  He also made other professionals stretch.

Jim was a true mentor. My professional career has been and is , in many ways, crafted by the talent and generosity of Jim. 
He will be missed.

I cut my teeth in Landscape Architecture in Jim's shadow at OvS, from 1985-1998.  I couldn't imagine a more creative, tougher, challenging teacher and mentor.  And friend.  We had a lot of fun and a few tears together through the years.  So many wonderful growing experiences I hope to never forget.

Though we were no longer in close touch, I always felt Jim's presence with me.  Now that he is gone, I feel a great hole.  Fortunately, his creative teachings live in me and through me. I am forever grateful.

I first met Jim in the early 1960s when he came to Washington.  His work stands as a notable contribution to American landscape architecture.  Fortunately, its images are well captured in several fine publications - to be savored, studied and admired.
