Born on April 13, 1965 to Evanthia Ann Kontos and Nick John Marmaras, Joanna is a radiant soul whose presence illuminated the lives of all those who knew her. She is a beacon of wisdom and warmth — cherished deeply by her family, friends, and community.
A remarkable woman with intelligence and grace, Joanna earned degrees with honors from both Duke University and George Washington University Law School. She practiced law with integrity and compassion until she chose to dedicate herself full-time to her greatest joy — her family.
Joanna married the love of her life, George Theodore Pedas on May 20, 1989. They were married for 36 wonderful years and were blessed by God with two treasured children, Theodore George James Pedas and Paulina Evangeline Pedas.
Family and faith were the cornerstones of Joanna’s life. She served on the board of Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral and embodied the values of the church in all that she did. In later years, Joanna returned to her legal roots as a volunteer attorney negotiator for domestic relations cases.
Loving wife to George; cherished mother to Theodore and Paulina; Joanna’s beautiful spirit also lives on through her beloved father, Nick; sister, Nicolette; Mother-in-law, Lea; and her family, Mitch, Kay, Jim, Wanda, Jimmy, Sharon, Nicole, Chris, Keith, Billy, Kelli, Michele, and George; as well as many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, godparents, and godchildren.
Joanna joins her mother Evanthia Ann, Uncle Deno, Father-in-law Ted, and Janet in eternal life.
Joanna will be dearly missed. May her memory be eternal.
