Maria Chaconas Koutrouvelis was born in Washington, D.C., December 19, 1937, the daughter of Martina and Aristides Chaconas. Her grandparents were from Sparta, Greece. She graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in nursing. For over 40 years, Maria worked side by side with her husband, Dr. Panos Koutrouvelis, in opening and growing a medical practice “Northern Virginia Radiology and Nuclear Medicine”. Maria showed compassion and care for every patient, while operating and managing the facility. Maria loved her family, (“my boys”) and friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling to Greece with the love of her life, her husband, and her children. She was very proud of her Spartan heritage and lived her life as a fighter, being a survivor of breast cancer. Maria leaves behind four children Aristides (Gayle), Alexander, Harry (Pamela) and Demetri; four grandchildren, Panos, Maria, George and Penelope; two siblings, Peter Chaconas and Nina Mitchell. Her husband and son, George, pre-deceased her.
