Marilynn Liotta, 73, died on September 24, 2018 from ovarian cancer. Lynn was born in Somerville, New Jersey, and attended public schools there. After graduating from Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York she lived and worked in New York City while studying art at The Cooper Union. Although she initially resisted following in her mother’s footsteps as an educator, in 1975 she became a certified Montessori Teacher. Lynn moved to Laguna Beach, California where she bought, ran, and was the principal teacher at The Montessori School. After three years she moved to Basel Switzerland. Upon returning to Washington she worked for the Institute for Policy Studies until she accepted a position with the Evergreen Montessori School in Montgomery County, Maryland, where she taught until her retirement in 2014.
Lynn was much beloved by her young students and their grateful parents.
Lynn loved the arts. She was herself a painter and an early member of the Washington Women’s Art Center. One of her works was recently exhibited at the Katzen Museum at American University. She attended symphony and chamber music concerts as well as theater and poetry readings. Despite her illness she remained strong and vibrant to the end.
She is survived by her many loving friends; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert Case Liotta, Barbara Josephs Liotta of Washington, D.C. and her beloved nephews; Benjamin I. Liotta, MD, of San Diego, California and Joseph Case Liotta, of Barcelona Spain.
She is missed by all who know and loved her.
