Mary Phyllis Averinos

Mary Phyllis Averinos of Potomac, MD, beloved wife of Louis P. Averinos passed away peacefully on April 12, 2014. She is preceded in death by her sister, Irene Cardy. She is survived by her children, Catherine and her husband John, Peter and his wife Georgia and her grandchildren, Christopher and fiancee Laura, Nicole and Louie. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. George Polis and wife Angela as well as many nieces, nephews and god-children who are very important to her. Mary was a lifelong member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral where she was an active member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Viewing will be held at JOSEPH GAWLERS SON'S, 5130 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Tuesday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. as well as Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Prayers will be offered during the afternoon viewing. Services will be held at 10:30, Wednesday, April 16 at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 36th St. & Massachusetts Ave., NW. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Cathedral. - Arrangements under the direction of Joseph Gawler's Sons LLC, Washington, DC.
