On January 1, 2019, Milton (Mickey) Heller of Chevy Chase passed away at 89. Mr. Heller was born in Washington, DC at old Sibley Memorial Hospital. He grew up over his parents’ grocery store at 23rd and F in the District. He was a great basketball player and scholar, an exceptionally gifted trial lawyer and dancer, a natural leader and lover of life, and a charming and graceful man. How graceful? Roller skating at age 5 across Virginia at 23rd, he was hit by a speeding car, and he somersaulted and skated on. As Cleopatra purportedly said of Marc Antony,
His delights
Were dolphinlike; they showed his back above
The element they lived in.
He graduated from Western High School (now Duke Ellington), then received a B.S. degree in pharmacy and chemistry at the age of 20, and while working as a pharmacist and pharmaceutical patent examiner graduated with honors from George Washington Law. He quickly established himself as a leading plaintiffs’ product liability, medical malpractice and personal injury lawyer and most eligible bachelor in the District and Maryland. He served in various leadership roles for the Bar Association of the District of Columbia and the Trial Lawyers Association.
He is survived by his long-time partner in life and law practice, Barbara Condos, her daughters, Cathy (Douglas) and Liz (Steve), and grandchildren Braeden, Abigail, Emma, Jane and Alice. He is also survived by his sister Minerva Neiditz, his nephew Jon Neiditz, Jon’s wife Anne Beidler and their children, Hannah and Elizabeth. On Sunday, Mr. Heller was buried next to his parents, Isidor and Rebecca Heller, at the King David Memorial Gardens in Virginia. A memorial service will be announced.
