I know this is late but Robert crossed my mind today. We first met in 1988 at Saunders Middle School. I was the new girl, Robert introduced himself and we became instant friends. I remember talking on the phone with him all day in summer while we watched The Young and the Restless, listening to music and of course hanging out at the mall. We were best friends ❤. After we graduated we kind of lost touch but I always remembered the fun times we had. Today I wanted to try and find him just to say hello to my old friend and I discovered he had passed away. I wish I had tried to contact him earlier. Robert was an amazing person I will never forget him we had so many good times during Middle and high school. He is missed and loved!!

I am so saddened to hear the news about Robert's passing.  He was such a light and a blessing with his joy and kindness when I was younger. He is a part of some of my fondest memories from my youth and though we somehow lost touch over the years, it's a testament to his generous spirit that I felt compelled to say something here about how grateful I am to have known him for the time that I did. Thank you for the good times that made us laugh,  as the song goes, I think you even sang it and a host of us rather enjoyed your jubilant spirit whenever you sang a song.

I worked closely with Robert for over two years. He was always able to make me smile and laugh, even when I didn't want to, and was always very helpful and supportive. He made me a better worker, and acted almost like a strict (but fair) older brother to me while we were in the office. I am very happy to have met him and very grateful that I got to share good times with him, both in and out of the office. He had a very positive impact on my life in the time that I knew him and I will miss him very, very much

As I sit here reading these memories all I can think is what a wonderful human being you raised. The pain people are feeling at Rob's loss is palpable. And as devastated as they are that devastation must be multiplied exponentially for you, his mother.  We will continue to lift you in prayer along with his husband, and remaining family and friends.  God is still a comforter and He sees you. 

Robert is and forever will be one of my sister's best friends... Although I had only met him a handful of times, I left each moment knowing exactly why he had such a great bond with her. Robert had a kind soul, a bigger than life personality, and gifted this world with with his humor and sass.  He has left this world too soon, but has made a lasting impact on everyone he met.

What a smile, what a laugh... Robert, a bright soul that has left this world emptier. Because you shone, because you gave, because you made the world fuller. You were such a good friend to my sister, which makes you family. We will miss you, but never ever forget you. You made every heart you touched that much bigger. It hurts right now, but we will use that love and pass it on, not only in your honor, but because as you knew, the world needs a lot more of that.  Much strength and love to Rob, and all friends and family. A big Robert smile to carry you through.

I wanted to express my sincere condolences to Betty and family, as well as Rob.  I am heartbroken that I cannot be there today to comfort you both in person, during what I am sure will be the most difficult day your lives. 

Where to begin with my memories with my best friend.  From the day Robert and I met over 25 years ago, Robert's unique ability to acknowledge everyone's presence as if they were the only other person in the room was infectious.  And from that first meeting, over some mint juleps and a tacky orange shirt on my part,  Robert and I were part of each others lives through the countless other memories that I will cherish for the remainder of my days. 

There was typically a common theme to most of my memories with Robert, and that theme would be music.   Robert and I shared a common love for similar music genre's, artists, songs and lyrics.     Robert and I were so nsync with our love of music, we had a tendency on many occasions to communicate our thoughts, ideas, and share advice for each other through song lyrics.    

This bond that we both had with music would continue until hours before Robert so untimely left this earth.   Robert and I LOVED the Kelly Clarkson Show, for Kelly's songs that she would perform at the beginning of every show.  I thought Kelly's rendition of Whitney Houston's song "Run To You" was spectacular, and IMMEDIATELY had to get Robert's critique.  I unfortunately was not able to receive Robert's critique, but in actuality, I was not reaching out to Robert for a critique of a piece of music.   I just wanted to reach out to my best friend. 

Robert, I don't know how to fully live my life without your life intertwined with mine, so the grieving process for me will be long and hard....down to finding someone new to be best friends with in the nursing home (as we joked about all the time), so that we both can be sure to keep each others memories alive when we were to be old and feeble together.

What a wonderful tribute. Whenever you spoke about Robert, you had a twinkle in your eye.  So, so,  sorry for your loss and pain, Rob.  Sending virtual hugs from Richmond. 

Rob really lit up a room. In my case, that room was D2 and I was a college senior who happened to frequent the bar as my friend worked there. Through many happy hours and brunches, I got to know him and even celebrate “The Robs” wedding in their apartment. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing, and my thoughts are with his husband and family. 

I moved to DC in 2013, soon after I met "the Robs" one night at D2.  Recently divorced, and new to the neighborhood, I had no friends so, they quickly scooped me up.  We had many,  many fun times together at brunch, on the "AVE" or hanging out on 17th street.  While we have drifted apart over the last few years, I will always cherish the time we spent together.  The late night McDonald's after a night out,  the Thanksgivings that meant so much...and the  birthdays you celebrated with me.  I will miss your kind eyes, your wittiness, and soft heart.  Most of all I will miss your hearty, infectious laugh.  Love you so...

To Rob and all of Robert's family, friends and loved ones,  I am so saddened to hear of the sudden passing of my former co-worker at MITRE and friend.  He was an exceptional person who brought  an energy and positive outlook to all he encountered.  Please know that his impact on others will last with them a lifetime, Robert will not be forgotten.  Rob you are in my thoughts during this incredible difficult time.

Robert, I still don't believe we've shared our last laughs, deep diva discussions, and Rose Kennedys together. I'm struggling to find the right words, because I don't think there are any. Our lives crossed paths at the perfect time: I had just moved to my first place on "The Ave", and was looking to recalibrate myself both personally and professionally. You helped restore a lot of my confidence in who I am and what I'm capable of, and also, welcomed me not only as a neighbor, or a friend, but as family. I admire your passion, whether it was music, guilty pleasures on TV, your "mayoral" duties, or for the people you cherished most. I am so glad to have had you as a foundational part of the local family that Sara and I began to grow together.

I can only hope there will eventually come a time that we are reunited for one more karaoke duet (and yes, even if "Careless Whisper" is YOUR song), dinner gathering, or, of course, brunch. Sending thoughts of love, healing, possibility, and positivity to Rob, your family, your friends, your colleagues, and everyone whose lives you touched. Cathedral Heights, nor this world, will ever have another Robert, but I hope we will all do our best in emulating your warmth and spirit with each passing day.

I was new to DC. Didn’t know anyone in the city. Then I met Robert at a local DC hangout. Ill always remember that afternoon. His genuine smile. He smiled with his eyes. He became my first friend in DC. Dinners, drinks, and laughs. Those first few months living in the city wouldnt not have been the same without his friendship. He introduced me to Shawn and Judy. And my circle of friends grew from there. Robert was truly a kind pure soul. The hearts he touched will not be the same without him in this world. My sincerest condolences to his husband Rob, his family and the many many friends who will feel this loss. 

Robert was a bright light who made me feel beautiful and put a smile on my face in some of my darkest moments.  He was one of my best friends and favorite karaoke partner by far.  We always laughed together, and I know he wouldn't want me to cry over his loss.  He'd want me to be happy and grateful for the time that I got to spend with him in Robert Land.  If we measure his life in the love that he gave to his friends and family, he has truly outlived us all.

I was so saddened to hear of Robert’s passing. He was a great guy and I’m glad that we became friends. Even though we drifted apart over the years, I will always remember his smile and his love of music. Many prayers to his family and friends in this time of sorrow.  Rest In Peace Rob!

So sorry to hear of the sudden death of Robert. We met on a cruise Dec 2018 so didn't know Robert very well but we were privilaged to meet him, his zest for life was infectious, he made a big impact on us a true gentleman.

There is an expression of how what we most remember about people is how they make us feel. I only got to see Robert on rare occasions, but even from the first time, he made me feel like I belonged and was valued.  I last saw Robert at a memorial this summer and I can't fathom that we are now preparing for his.   My heart goes out to everyone and especially to Rob as you two are the best.  

Robert enriched my life by sharing his.  His love of life was infectious and I will be forever enriched.  A night on the town with Robert always meant fun times and good drinks.  Rob and Betty thank you for sharing him.  His memories will be forever.  My loving thoughts are with you both. 

This man was a special soul. I worked as a server at a local restaurant that Robert 
 would visit. It was a tough, tiring job. But when Robert was there, I knew he’d put a smile on my face. He always stood out. A shining light and a soft, tender spirit. 

I’ll never forget, one time we were chatting at the restaurant and I told him my birthday was coming up. He insisted that we have a party for me at his home. He told me to invite any friends I wanted. He’d have drinks and snacks for everyone. That’s exactly what happened. He made my birthday special, made it memorable. He asked for nothing in return, he just wanted to connect with people. 

He knew I struggled maintaining a good, positive mood at that job and he just wanted to do something nice. 

A special person 


What I can remember about Robert is that he had a heart of gold and a sensitive soul.  There are many angels above and God has called  Robert home to wait over us. "John 14:27  “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. May God be with all of you. 

Beyond words.... such a wonderful man, with a great laugh and smile.  We all will miss you Robert... Strength to Rob and your family

I knew Robert in high school. He was a bright, shining light! My best memory was when we all went prom together (1993).  Robert was wearing THE MOST dapper white tuxedo; top hat and all! No one was cooler. 

I only met Robert and Rob for a week on a cruise in December 2018 but both these guys left a lasting impression on us, we as strangers became friends and we will never forget that brief friendship, rest in peace Robert from your friends in Ireland, Paul & Pazit x

As a kid when Robert would watch my sisters & I over the weekends, one movie we would always watch was Selena. We would order pizza, sing along with the movie & see who could stay up the longest. We would beg cousin Rob to let us stay longer by the time Sunday approached. Whenever I watch Selena it will remind me of the weekends we spent together making a mess of his apartment, dancing around in our pajamas, & trying his hardest to convince my little sister to take a bath. Love you cousin Rob!

It was such a great day-to-day experience working with Robert – he was both a fun and thoughtful person who was really committed to those around him. He will truly be missed, and I’m grateful for the time I got to know him.

Robert - I know you're in a wonderful place now, where there will always be a light sunny breeze and a cocktail in your hand. It was a blessing to have you join MITRE and I am honored that I can call you my coworker, colleague, and friend. You've made these past two years at MITRE very special, and I am grateful for the support and friendship you've always given me. You were a Rockstar at MITRE, and now you're an actual Star in the sky, always shinning bright. I'll miss you.

My dear friend Robert was a funny, sweet person.  I worked with  him at the MITRE Corporation.  Robert was the Recruiter for my Division.  The first day I met Robert, we were friends.  He would always make me laugh.  He would also tell me, I will be over to see you later.  Robert was a hard worker and enjoyed life.  He always did a great job as a Recruiter.  If you had questions or problems, he  would resolve them.  Robert left MITRE in February 2020.  I was very sad when he left.  It is really sad that he has passed away at such a young age.

I was their neighborhood bartender for awhile years ago and had the honor of bartending for them for their wedding reception. Both very sweet men and I was honored to do so. Rob you will be missed.

My first nephew brought so much joy to my life. Always full of laughs and smiles. There wasn't a person. That wasn't touched by his heart.
