Sandy was the youngest of three children and was the first in her family to attend college. In 1961 she graduated from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois with a degree in English literature. Sandy followed this achievement with a Masters Degree from John Carroll University. There, she met Charles J. Montrose, Jr. Soon after, in 1963, they married, moved to Silver Spring, Maryland and raised three children, Billy, Lynn and Lisa.
Sandy taught English Composition at Montgomery Blair High School. She enjoyed working with the students individually and editing their short stories and poetry for the school's yearly publication. Years later, she earned a Juris Doctorate from The Catholic University of America. She worked as an environmental attorney at Covington and Burling Law Firm in Washington, DC and later enjoyed a 17-year career working as Legal Counsel to Chief Judge Frank Nebeker in the U.S. Court of Veterans Appeals.
Sandy retired to Marco Island, Florida after the passing of her husband, Charles. In Florida, she volunteered in schools teaching reading, writing and art appreciation to young children. She loved exercising in her pool and taking Zumba classes at the YMCA. Sandy always had her home's welcome mat out and warmly hosted many family members and friends.
Sandy married Joseph Olivier in 2010. Together, they enjoyed traveling the world and visiting diverse places including Antarctica, Morocco, Peru and New Zealand. The pair also went on several ocean and river cruises, featuring one that brought them around the world.
Throughout her life, Sandy maintained a sunny outlook and was buoyed along the way by prayer and her deep Catholic faith. She was a lifelong learner who joyfully celebrated life's happy events and embarked on many unique adventures. She is survived by her three children, William Montrose (Carolyn), Lynn Montrose Herbert (Keith) and Lisa Montrose. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Mikey (Cheyenne), Zack, Samantha (Travis), Charlie, Jenna, Cole, Cam, two great-grandchildren, River and Raya, and many, many other family members and friends.
