

Leonard Johnston DeWitt of New Windsor, NY died Wednesday at Saint Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was 82. Leonard was born in Salisbury Mills, NY, on February 25, 1930, a son of the late Clarence and Dora Johnston DeWitt. He served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed in Alaska. He was a self-employed water well driller, operating under the business name of C. DEWITT AND SONS, a family business since 1927. He was a well driller all his life. In 1979, he formed a partnership with his brother, Sam DeWitt. When Sam retired, he continued as an independent contractor until he passed the business to his son, Chris DeWitt. Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Linda Boucher DeWitt at home; two daughters: Patricia DeWitt Savage of Millsboro, Delaware, and Doreen DeWitt Morris and her husband, Christopher of Buffalo, New York ;his son Christopher DeWitt of Newburgh, New York; three grandchildren: Frank Bolen, of Bethesda, Maryland, Annette Jarvis of Delmar, Delaware, and Connor Morris of Buffalo, New York; three great grandchildren: Tessa Jarvis, Pierce Jarvis and Zeth Jarvis, all of Delmar, Delaware. Friends are invited to call at David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, NY, from 1 pm to 4 pm Sunday September 9. Services will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
