Maureen Joyce McDonough

Maureen Joyce McDonough, a resident of Deposit, NY, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on April 30, 2026. She was 90 years old. Maureen was born on February 18, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY but raised in Queens, NY to the late John and Elizabeth Travers. She married Gerard, the love of her life and years later moved to Washingtonville. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church and she loved her Bingo nights. Maureen was a generous soul, who opened her home to friends in need of a place to stay. She was a lifelong Mets fan who would watch the games at every opportunity. Later in life, she moved to Deposit to live with her daughter, Jane, and to be close with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Christopher and wife Lorraine McDonough; daughter Jane and husband James Ayres; daughter Mary and husband Bill Smith; son John and wife Morgan McDonough; grandchildren Jennifer Braun and husband Christopher; James Ayres and Michael Smith; great grandchildren Leah, Christopher, Ezra and Helena Braun; brother James and wife Noel Travers; sister Ann and husband Bruce Bowler; sister-in-law Helena Mooney; many nieces and nephews and Daughter of the Heart Kathie Greak.

She was predeceased by her husband Gerard McDonough; brothers Joseph, John and Thomas; sister-in-law Margaret Daly; brother-in-law Albert Daly; brother-in-law James Mooney and Daughter of the Heart Pam Valente.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 5th from 4-7pm at David T Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, NY 10992. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6th at St. Mary’s Church, 42 Goshen Ave, Washingtonville, NY 10992. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 2 Father Tierney Circle Washingtonville, New York, 10992.
