Virginia R. Burger of Washingtonville, entered into rest on Friday, March 12, 2010 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was 83.
The daughter of Ezra Burger and Ida May Wright, and stepdaughter of Margaret Berry Burger, she was born January 15, 1927 in Cornwall.
Virginia was a retired bookkeeper for the Grand Union in Washingtonville; she was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, past Deacon and the Church Prayer Chain; a member and chaplain of the Monell Engine Co. Ladies Auxiliary; founding member and President of F.I.S.H. of Blooming Grove; member of the January Girls Birthday Club; Blooming Grove Sixty Plus Club; Orange County R.S.V.P. of Goshen; Blooming Grove Chamber of Commerce; Board of Directors of HUB Senior Housing of Washingtonville; a volunteer for the Blooming Grove Senior Dining Program; Blooming Grove Senior Council; Highland Telephone Advisory Committee, and the 1990 Senior Citizen of the Year.
Virginia is survived by her niece, Cynthia Shannon and her fiance, Kenneth Dill; two Godchildren, Trisha Fiske and Vernon Smith, and many cousins.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, March 15, at the David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North St., Washingtonville.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 16, at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, New Windsor. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
