

February 9, 1933 – January 5, 2014
Sidney – Gerard Nadeau Sr., dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 5th with his family surrounding him. He was born the 11th child of 17 and raised in Caron Brook, New Brunswick, Canada on February 9, 1933, the son of Honore’ & Elizabeth (Lang) Nadeau.
In his early years, he helped with the family farm tending to farm animals and gardening. At the age of 16 he started working in the logging camps as a cook assistant (Cookie). He moved into the state of Maine at the age of 21 to the Waterville area. He met his beautiful wife, Cecile LaRoche, and they were married July 3, 1954. They shared 59 wonderful years together. During this time, he worked for Scott Paper Company and retired after 40 years.
Gerard had many interests. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Grand Knight for 3 years and won the family of the year award in 1998. He raised beef cattle, pigs, and chickens on his farm. He enjoyed spending time with his family, card games, dancing, gardening, working in the woods (he was one with the chainsaw and his tractor) , camping, traveling, blue grass music and volunteering at the soup kitchen. He also volunteered for St. Theresa’s Church for many years and drove their school bus for CCD.
Gerard is survived by his wife, Cecile, of 59 years and 6 children; Gerard Nadeau and his wife, Jane of Saco; Peter Nadeau and his wife Venita of Sidney, Darryl Nadeau and Nikole Raymond of Sidney; Lee Nadeau of Sidney; Joyce Fisher and her husband Tedd of Sidney; Alan Nadeau and his wife Paula of Belgrade. He is also survived by 4 brothers and 5 sisters; Eight grandchildren: Monique, Travis, Julie, Michelle, Emily, Garrett, Evan, and Alexander; two great-grandchildren Xavier and Takoma.
Gerard is predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Coleen Elizabeth Nadeau; 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Special thanks to the nurses at 2 West, Maine General Medical Center, for the excellent loving care they gave to Gerard and his family.
Viewing hours will be from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Waterville, Maine. A celebration of life funeral service will be at 11 am on Friday, January 10, 2014 at St. Joseph Maronite Church, 3 Appleton Street, Waterville, Maine.
