

Oakland - Gertrude Elizabeth Veilleux Gagnon, born November 2, 1923 to Philip and Anna Veilleux died very peacefully and naturally in her own bed during the early morning hours of Friday January 23 2015. Her daughter Elaine, caregiver for a good many years, lovingly put her in Jesus' care at bedtime Thursday night. He answered her prayer by taking her home. The family wishes to thank Elaine and her family for their loving care of our beloved Gertrude.
All who know Gert will remember her as a very loving, most compassionate woman whose family meant everything to her. She helped raise her brothers and sisters and later took excellent care of her husband, Alex Gagnon, who predeceased her in 1987. She worked at the Chicken Plant and The Hathaway Shirt Company. Gertrude was always busy knitting, crocheting and sewing when she wasn't cooking, cleaning and caring for her family or playing cards or beano. She donated countless numbers of baby quilts and other handmade items to help the less fortunate. Gertrude was a devout Catholic and active in Les enfants de Marie, Ladies of St. Anne and St. Theresa's Guild. Alex and Gertrude had four children, son Charles and Linda Gagnon and their children Darrell and Sharon Gagnon, Michelle and Scott Fitts and their children Colby, Tucker and Scotty, Alex Gagnon and sons, Trent and Owen; son Francis and Carol Gagnon and their children Travis and Nicole Weaver, Heather Fox and Matt Leavitt and their children (Hana-deceased) and Porter Fox, Desiree Gagnon, Joshua and Hannah Gagnon and their children Evelyn and Violet, Shane and LiLi Gagnon and their son Bruce, Charity and Michael Solovei, Beth Gagnon, Tim and Michelle Gagnon and their sons Cole and Kyle, Ryan and Aida Gagnon and daughters, Selena and Cathlene. Daughter Rachel and David Ferguson and their children, Michael Ferguson and Sherri Hughes, Scott and Juna Ferguson and their daughter Raelynn. Daughter Elaine and James Veilleux and their children Sara Veilleux and Stephen Kent, Laura and Brad Pierce and their children Alex and William. Gert also had children she considered to be family to her, they include Mark Madore, Susan Kinsey and Sherry Cates. Gertrude's siblings include Florian Veilleux and Barbara Morse; sister in law Jackie Veilleux; Carmen Libby Mullen and Bob; Stella and Claude Roy; and Madeline and Richard McPhail. Also predeceasing her was a baby brother, her sister Arlene, her brother Raymond, her brother Lionel and his widow Madeline (who died the same night Mama did), Joe and Jeanette Veilleux, and sister in law Yvette Veilleux. Gertrude is also survived by brothers in law, Wilfred Cyr, Melvin Williams; sisters in law, Eva Russell and Esther Gagnon. She was predeceased by Lucille Cyr, Odile Williams, Reginald an Suzanne Gagnon, Leo and Lucille Gagnon, Laurier and Thelma Gagnon, Joseph Russell, young Reginald Gagnon. Gertrude also has many nieces and nephews and other extended family. Sadly she lost 7 nephews in this lifetime as well.
Visiting hours will be held at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St in Waterville Maine on Thursday, January 29 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Notre Dame Church on Friday, January 30 at 11:00 AM. Spring interment at the Veteran's Cemetery in Augusta will be held at a date to be determined.
