

WINSLOW - William P. Pleau (80) passed away after a short illness on June 24, 2015 at Maine General Hospital in Augusta with his loving family at his side. He was born on April 4, 1935 to William and Lina Pleau.
He married Pauline Sitnik in 1956 and has remained in Winslow. William is survived by his wife, Pauline, of 59 years, four children, Debra Pleau and her husband Walter Jowett of Westville, NJ; William Pleau, Jr. and wife, Monika of Charlotte, NC; Richard Pleau and wife, Lisa of Pine Hill, NJ; and Robert Pleau and wife, Barbara of Winslow, ME. He is also survived by six beloved grandchildren, Paul Biester of NJ; Sierra and Janelle Pleau of NJ; Stephanie, Sarah and Daniel Pleau of Vassalboro: Great granddaughter, Stella Biester of Vassalboro. His brother, Wilfred Pleau of NY, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews also survive him.
William (Bill) is predeceased by brothers Fern Pleau and Lionel Pleau. And sisters Theresa Doyon, Carmen LaChance, Cecile Toulouse and Estelle Pleau.
He especially enjoyed family get togethers and spending time in his backyard with special cousin, Reggie Morneau and other close friends. He will always be remembered for his generous nature and gentle way of caring. He was passionate about his business, Pleau's Market and his all time favorite New England Patriots.
Bill was educated in Winslow schools. At 15 years of age he was employed as a movie projectionist at the Waterville Opera House and the Winslow Drive In Theater. He continued this part-time for the next 30+ years. He began his career in the grocery business in the late 50's at Giguere's Supermarket in Fairfield. He left in 1968 to become manager of the Winslow IGA. He and his wife Pauline purchased the business in 1978, and subsequently changed the name to Pleau's Market. They and their son, Store Manager Rob Pleau have successfully built the business along with their capable and loyal employees. He was a long standing member of many clubs and organizations including the Waterville Elks Lodge, Winslow Lions, Jaycees etc.
Visiting Hours will be held at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St. in Waterville on Tuesday, June 30 from 4 to 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday July 1, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Church in Winslow at 11AM.
