22 December, 194726 December, 2020

Paul Nicholas Borella was born on December 22, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan. He passed away peacefully on December 26, 2020 four days after his 73rd birthday. Paul was under the gentle care of Angela Hospice and his niece Jill Vitale.

Paul enjoyed tinkering with and fixing small appliances and clocks. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a large appetite for a good meal. Paul also enjoyed walking and playing the lottery. However, his happiness came from spending time with his family and friends.

Paul follows his father, William, mother, Carmen, sister Pam (Olweean), and brother, William in death. He is survived by a nephew, nieces, and many cousins. Paul will also be deeply missed by his dear friends, Manuela Huerta and Marsha Grubbs.

Paul and I were first cousins, only 6 months difference in age. I have many vivid memories of our younger years particularly during the summers when our family would travel from Philadelphia to Detroit. Baseball games at Peterson Park, bike rides for hours along Greenfield Road, walks to Jim's corner store for a pop & a candy bar, walks to the dime store on 7 mile road with 50 cents in our pockets to spend (a lot of $ in the 50's). Then later in the 60's we'd take Pam's car for a ride around the block without her knowledge of course (when she was on a date). Good Humor ice cream trucks each night! An outing to Brigg's Stadium to catch a Tiger game & once in a while we'd go to Edgewater Park (a poor man's Disneyland). We had some good times. It was nice to read that his final years provided him with close friends that cared for him. He's in a better place now. Rest in Peace, Cousin. God Bless.

I am one of Paul's neighbors. I knew him ever since he moved here about 6 years ago. I'm good friends with his pal Manuela. Paul and Manuela spent most days together watching tv, talking, eating, taking walks all over the place. He loved to walk and encouraged her to accompany him, which she did. She is a feisty little woman and they had many feisty conversations which he encouraged and seemed to thrive on. Paul took her to his favorite restaurant, Andiamo's on their birthdays. Boy he loved Andiamo's. There are too many tales to be told about them, but let me say Paul was very thoughtful and generous with his pal. They both had health issues and worried about each other. It was sort of an unusual friendship I suppose, but I'm so glad that they had those years together and were such good friends. Rest in peace Paul, you will be missed.
