Obituary of Betty Kindig
Mrs. Betty Lee Yowell Kindig was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2022. She will be forever remembered by her family, church members and friends as a very caring and loving mother, Brethren and friend. Betty was born on Sept 5, 1928 in Greenville, to parents William Carl Yowell, Sr. and Bessie Katherine Coffey Yowell, she attended Greenville Elementary School before moving on to high school at Stuarts Draft. It was in high school where she met James Earl Kindig her future husband and love of her life. Betty taught school for several years and still has students in the area. She also taught pre-school in Waynesboro. Betty and Earl also owned and operated Kinmont Farm raising beef cattle and eventually developed one of the most renowned Charolais herds in North America. Betty was baptized at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church and after marriage became a member at Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren. Betty and Earl retired from full time farming and raising cattle in 2000 and spent time together at home and traveling across the United States and Europe. They spent wonderful times visiting grandchildren and attending state fairs, cattle shows and church events. In her later years Betty continued to visit her many grandchildren and always had an open door for family and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James Earl Kindig; brothers, William Carl Yowell, Jr. and infant, John Thomas Yowell; and son-in-law, Hank Coyner. She is survived by her daughter, Lucy Kindig Coyner; son, James Lee Kindig and wife, Jan; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Gum Richardson and husband, Jim, Robert Ray Gum II and wife, Caitlin, William James Kindig, Jacqueline Kindig Mays and husband, Charley, Taylor Coyner Neubig and husband, Stephen, Morgan Coyner, Cliff Coyner and wife, Kandi, Craig Coyner; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, she had very dear friends Dr. Dennis Hatter and wife, LuAnne, Steve Hewitt, Linda Kelley and Sandra Baker. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Mount Vernon Church of the Brethren, 90 Mount Vernon Road, Waynesboro. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Steve Hewitt, Steve Ballew, Mark Ramsey, Larry Cohron, Jason Hutchinson, and Lester Kelley. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Vernon Church of the Brethren.
