Cecil Franklin "Sonny" Johnson, Jr.

Cecil Franklin “Sonny” Johnson, Jr., 78, of Waynesboro went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Augusta Health. Born March 15, 1939 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Cecil Franklin Johnson, Sr. and Eva Raines Johnson. Sonny retired from Brown & Root Inc., Waynesboro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Lydia “Izetta” Johnson; and a sister, Joyce Snead Woodward. Survivors include his son, Cecil “Frankie” Johnson, III; his siblings, Marie Allen, Shirley Fitzgerald, Dorothy Jean Campbell and husband, Leonard, Tessie Atkins and husband, Roger, William Johnson, Delores Eskew and Ray Johnson and wife, Carol; sisters-in-law, Delores Price and husband, David and Barbara Fisher; brother-in-law, Buddy Gibson; as well as a number of extended family members. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Riverview Cemetery with the Rev. Merle Fisher officiating. Those who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. There will be no public viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
