Born July 6, 1962 in Waynesboro, he was a son of David Millard Meek, Sr. and Arleen (Harris) Meek. On September 14, 1985 he married the love of his life, Dianne Margaret Wampler. The two shared 40 wonderful years of marriage together.
David was currently employed by Mountain Valley Corporation–Burger King, where he faithfully served as Head of Maintenance Operations for 20 years. Before that, he was co-owner of Quality Machine Services in Waynesboro.
David truly had a heart of gold. He never met a stranger and had a rare gift for making everyone feel like a friend. His kindness, easy laugh, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression wherever he went. He proudly served on the Board of Directors for 20 years with the Waynesboro Soap Box Derby Committee, a role that reflected his deep commitment to his community.
Above all else, David was a devoted and loving son, husband, father and grandfather. Affectionately known as “Papa” by his grandchildren, he cherished every moment spent with them. He coached both of his children in baseball and softball and managed the Crimora Athletic Facilities, where he spent countless hours caring for the grounds and handling maintenance needs. He was especially proud to help create a second baseball and softball field, ensuring future generations would have a place to play.
Those closest to David will always remember his creativity and artistic spirit. He had a unique talent for turning discarded items into something beautiful, creating pumpkins, snowmen, and Frankenstein figures from old HVAC tanks. Sharing these creations with friends and family brought him great joy.
An avid outdoorsman, David loved spending time fishing and trying his hand at hunting. He was a faithful member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro. David will be remembered for his generous heart, creative soul, strong work ethic, and unwavering love for his family, friends, and community. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Mattie Meek; maternal grandparents, Herman and Gertrude Harris; and his favorite in-laws, David and Mary Wampler.
