

Debbie T. Beaver, 58, of Afton went to be with her Heavenly Father Wednesday night, October 19, 2011 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. She was born September 17, 1953 in Waynesboro, VA, the daughter of the late George Buford and Agnes Annie Vest Thurnau. Debbie was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and graduated from James Madison University in 1973. She was founder and head master of Afton Christian School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her husband, Gary S. Beaver of 38 years; two daughters, Lovella Beaver of Afton and Jessie McQuillen and her husband Rickey McQuillen of Bluemont, VA; one granddaughter, Katie Butterfield; one sister, Dr. Georg Kidd and her husband Roy of Moon, VA; one brother, Jonathan Thurnau of Crimora. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2011 at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro. At her request, her casket will be closed. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2011 in Hebron Baptist Church with Pastors Whitney Critzer and Michael Embrey. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Alan, Rodger, Billy, Ryan, Daniel Beaver, Wayne Hodges and Boston Shilling. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Women’s Life Boat of Hebron Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Debbie’s name for medical expenses in care of Suntrust Bank, 1100 West Broad Street, Waynesboro,VA 22980. The family would like to give special thanks to the Johns Hopkins University, the H.H.T. Foundation and the University of Virginia Medical Center.
