Douglas Eugene Hutchinson

Douglas Eugene Hutchinson, 68, of Grottoes passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. Born June 26, 1953 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Richard Gordon Hutchinson and Margie Bell (Zimmerman) Bess. On November 27, 1992 he married Michelle Holway. The two shared 28 years of marriage together. Prior to retirement, Douglas worked as both a truck driver and mechanic. Those who knew him will remember him as a “jack of all trades” as he was able to fix almost anything. He greatly enjoyed grilling, going fishing and listening to bluegrass music. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Selby Deal; two brothers-in-law, Larry Deal and Donald Roberson; niece, Wanda Roberson; and nephew, Danny Cash. Survivors include his wife, Michelle Holway Hutchinson of Grottoes; son, David Lee Hutchinson of Grottoes; daughter, Michelle Fitzgerald and husband, Timothy of New Market, Va; grandchildren, Abbigayle Hutchinson, Joshua, Madison, Brianna, and Adam Fitzgerald; sisters, Linda Roberson of Grottoes and Sharon Smith and husband, Charlie of Raphine; brother, James Bess and wife, Annette of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews. Following cremation, a celebration of life service will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at his residence. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro.
