Edith S. Combs

She was born December 26, 1921 in Waynesboro, Virginia, a daughter of George L. and Ethel H. Brown.

She was a member of Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren where she served as Church Treasurer for over 37 years.

She was employed by the former General Electric Company from 1955 until 1983, and retired from Genicom in 1984.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands Rupert W. Smith, Floyd W. Combs and Waldo W. Whetsel, brothers; Robert O. Brown, Joseph L. Brown, James O. Brown, a sister, Lelia B. Lindamood, sons-in-law; Roger Lee Morris, Paul M. Ross, and a granddaughter, Rhonda Lee Morris.

Edith was the last member of her immediate family.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharyn M. Ross, two granddaughters; Paula R. Winegar and husband Anthony, Michelle R. Smiley and husband Michael, two great-grandchildren; Amanda N. Winegar, Matthew A. Smiley, one great-great grandson, Declan M. Lambert of Waynesboro.

She also leaves a very dear friend who was like a sister to her, Elaine Houff of Stuarts Draft, life-long friends Emmett V. and Helen M. Kirby of Waynesboro, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Larry Black officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Anthony Winegar, Michael Smiley, Matthew Smiley, Allen Smiley, Wayne Lindamood and Phillip Sandridge.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jill Stachkowski, her nieces and nephews attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Hospice of the Shenandoah, The American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to share a heartfelt thank-you to Kimberly Foster, Audrey Lindamood and Jill for their care and compassion with Edith.
