Obituary of George Allen Craig
George Allen Craig passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. He was born September 24, 1931 in Staunton, to the late Benjamin J. and Dora B. Craig of Waynesboro. Survivors include his wife, Joan (Phillips) Craig; daughter, Karen Craig and significant other, Richard of Galivants Ferry, SC, son, Kevin Craig and wife, Deb or Granger, IN; granddaughters, Haley Craig and significant other, Chris, MacKenzie and Meredith Mangus, great-granddaughter, Evangeline. George graduated from Waynesboro High School and entered the United States Navy. His service in the Navy was an exciting and enjoyable time in his life. He visited many countries and enjoyed his service sailing the Atlantic and Mediterranean. He graduated from the University of Virginia on the General Electric Apprentice Program. He worked at G.E./Genicom for many years and coached young men on the football and baseball fields in the Fishersville area. After retirement, he enjoyed his life on the golf course, gardening and fishing on the banks of the area rivers. After declining health, his pastime was reading and relaxing in the sun or in his favorite recliner. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. His gentle soul and great humor will be missed by his family and friends. As a celebration to his life, the family will receive friends between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at their home. In memory of George, if you would like, please wear your favorite college sweatshirt. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fishersville United Methodist Church, 1600 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville, Va. 22939.
